The CD-ROM contains photographs depicting procedures and methods found in the forensic laboratory environment from many different laboratories. Crime scene considerations include, search and collection of evidence, hand washing, and the risk of aerosolized bone dust during autopsy. Information is presented as text, and in combination with pictures, audio, graphics, animation, and video clips.

As students progress through the lessons, there are eight (8) pauses in the program where they will be referred to tabbed sections in the Workbook to learn "site specific" information, policy, or procedures. The CD-ROM will then show or explain BFS specific practices. With your "site specific" information in the workbook (e.g., crime scene evidence handling, reporting exposures, waste disposal, job classifications with occupational exposure, how to obtain HBV vaccinations, post-exposure medical evaluation and follow-up, and the identification of a person your staff can contact for questions), students will receive comprehensive training.

30 final test questions are randomly selected from a pool of 60. Students pass by achieving a score of at least 80%. Remaining questions would be used for the second final test, if necessary. Students are "locked out" of the program if the second test is not passed or if they start the course and do not complete it in 14 days. Records of training and HBV vaccination status are generated after passing the final test. If a student declines vaccination, a declination form is generated for the signature of the student and supervisor.

You can make copies of the Workbook and load the program on many computers or run the program from a CD-ROM drive. Minimum system requirements: PC computer with a minimum 133 MHz Pentium processor, Windows 95, and a 6x CD-ROM drive.
